Greatest Season of All-Time

This week's installment of my favorite greatest season of all-time brings us up to #7 and to the sport of basketball. To my readers, this is harder than it looks!

The city of Cincinnati had a treat during the 1961-62 NBA season, little did they know that Oscar Robertson, guard for the Cincinnati Royals, had a season that would be remembered more so than the team themselves. The term "triple-double" would not be coined for another 18 years, but Robertson showed us how it was done. He averaged 30.8 points, 11.4 assists and 12.5 rebounds, marking the only season a player has averaged a triple-double. It shouldn't be surprising that his 41 triple-doubles are also a record. Overshadowed by the league MVP Wilt Chamberlain's monstrous scoring effort that season, Robertson surpassed Bob Cousy's single-season assists record by a whopping 184 with 899. Possibly the most famous statistical season in NBA history, and he did all this in his second season in the league. Having only one MVP award in his 14 year career, the "Big O", will stay as one of, if not the greatest guard to ever play professional basketball.
