Greatest Season of All-Time

I'm back after a week layoff with my top 20 favorite greatest seasons of all-time before the turn of the century. It's been a while since i wrote one of these, for my personal enjoyment only, and we are going back to Major League Baseball a few decades ago. Without further ado...

From 1925 to 1933 the Philadelphia Athletics were able to win two World Series titles with the helpful arm of one of the most dominant pitchers between Walter Johnson and Pedro Martinez. His name was good old Lefty Grove and in 1931 Grove pitched the Athletics to 31 wins that season. An unbelievable mark! Also, Grove won the pitchers Triple Crown by having a 31-4 record, a 2.04 ERA, and striking out 175 batters. The 2.06 ERA was the lowest ERA for a season in his Hall of Fame career. On top of the individual statistics Grove won the AL MVP award a mark that would make him on a very short list of pitchers to win a league MVP. After winning the World Series back in 1930, Grove brought the Athletics back to the Series after winning the Pennant but the St. Louis Cardinals beat the A's in six games, but Grove only pitched in two games and was up next to pitch game seven. He was victorious in both the games the A's won. Grove still is always mentioned as one of the better pitchers before the modern day era, and to me the 1931 season was something that really needed to be on my short list. Grove finished with an even 300 victories for his career, currently ranked 21st.
