Classless

On ESPN the magazine's back page for the past two issues Rick Reilly has begun writing again. This week he writes about a high school Class AAA championship game held in Georgia. Apparently the umpire in the game was doing a "horrible" job. The last player he rang up on strikes was 15th overall pick of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers in shortstop Ethan Martin, to which Martin threw his helmet into the dugout. Martin's brother Cody was pitching in the game and both were complaining about the balls and strikes from the umpire throughout. So comes the bottom of the 4th inning with catcher Matt Hill behind the plate in a 0-1 count. What comes next is absolutely incredible, you be the judge...


Hill after the game said that he thought that a curveball was coming. After further review of the pitch the coach of Gordan College, where Hill was planning on playing ball next year, told him not to even bother coming this fall. Unbelievable what has happened to sports, no wonder why we can't find good referees or umpires anymore. The parents and now the players are scaring them away. After the game the umpire, Jeff Scott, complained of headaches and was taken to the hospital and went for an MRI. Then he decided to get himself a lawyer. Hopefully he got a good one!
