Living in Florida very close to the University of Central Florida, I got the opportunity to watch the best statistical running back in the country this college football season. Junior running back Kevin Smith was nothing less than amazing this season, charging the Golden Knights to the Conference USA title. Smith, the MVP of the championship game, had 284 yards and 4 touchdowns in the victory over Tulsa, rushed for 2,448 yards this season and broke the single season attempts record with 415, 12 more than Heisman winner Marcus Allen in 1981. 6'1'' Smith, is closing in on another record when UCF takes on Mississippi State in the Liberty Bowl. He needs 180 more yards to break a record held 19 years ago by another Heisman winner that season, Barry Sanders. By the way Smith averages 188 yards on the ground this season. With Smith possibly breaking two Heisman records this season, why is the junior not even getting an invite to New York for consideration of the Heisman Trophy? I realize that the kid plays in Conference USA, but Colt Brennan was allowed an invite and he plays in the WAC. UCF played Texas this season and should of beat them, Hawaii's toughest team that they played was Boise State who was ranked 19th at that time. I also realize that Smith won't win the Heisman since in my opinion Tim Tebow is a lock, but can't you just allow the kid to be present at the introduction. Give him a little taste of being acknowledged for the great season that he had. It just makes sense that Smith has been playing behind the shadows of the SEC and ACC in the south this season, just add a 5th seat and give him the invite. I won't even get into that Smith isn't even being mentioned as the top running back award that is being given out tonight. Talk about being snubbed!
